Last 8th of July at the Royal Academy of Medicine in Madrid, Ms. Noelia Beltrán Aznar (CEO at NOB166, the award’s sponsor) granted the award to Ms. María José Alonso Fernandez. NOB166 recognized the career path of the award-winner in this scientific field.
The National Nanotechnology Award was driven by Mr. Martín Hernández-Palacios as a result of the Masters Degree in Nanotechnology which he led at the Aliter School for 15 years.
The event was composed by a prestigious jury of renowned people involved in the nanotechnology research. They are part of the following organizations: CSIC, ICN2, IDIS, ICMAB, the Phantoms Foundation, the IMDEA Nanoscience Foundation, Madrid’s Chamber of Commerce, the Association of Biotechnology Communicators, Pharmamar Group, Antolín Group and Temas AG. The award winner, who has received more than thirty awards, is Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC).
She has coordinated several research consortia financed by the WHO, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Institutes of Health (United States and Canada), and the European Commission.
Dr. Alonso has pioneered several nanomedicine discoveries, these are reflected in multiple highly-cited scientific articles and patent families. Thanks to her research, the doctor has driven the development of nanostructures that act as vehicles to transport vaccines and medicines so that they can reach their destination in an efficient and safe way.
Currently, she is professor of Pharmacy and Technology at the University of Santiago (USC), where she is also the leader of a research group in Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology which is ascribed to CiMUS (Center for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases).
It should be noted, that the researcher has worked as a visiting scientist at the University of Paris XI, as well as at the University of Angers, France and at MIT, United States.
“It is very gratifying to award prof. Alonso for her effort and dedication in this scientific field. The National Nanotechnology Award’s main objective is to appreciate the progress of those who work constantly to improve in this discipline”.
Ms. Noelia Beltrán (CEO at NOB166)
Nanotechnology has an enormous potential which helps solve many of humanity’s problems. It provides us the tools to design both inorganic and organic matter at atomic levels.
This is the reason why NOB166 follows the same modus operandi, working on different lines of research that provide solutions to the problems we face on a daily basis.
