1What is the difference between the properties of metallic silver and silver ions?
Colloidal silver is a finely divided dispersion of metallic silver in an excipient that usually contains water and alcohol. It is indicated in a pharmacy or parapharmacy as a complement for the treatment of some infections. It is very popular in the USA; in Europe it is rarely used for this purpose.

Indeed, there are studies that advise against its use, mainly because the biocidal effect is mainly due to silver ions and not silver in its native state.

NOB166 does not contain metallic silver in any form. It is formulated from a natural adsorbent that incorporates a surfactant and silver ions. This combination provides a high biocidal effect to the materials where it is incorporated, avoiding the proliferation of microorganisms. It is an industrial product that is not indicated for human consumption, nor does it claim its use in pharmacy, parapharmacy or cosmetics.
2Can it be used to disinfect people?
No. The NOB166® product range does not include any products similar to ozone or hypochlorous acid that are advertised for disinfection of premises/locals. It is a solid product that can be dispersed in water, but remains solid. If it is nebulized, it immediately falls, depositing on the surface.

We have products for the treatment of textiles and hard surfaces, but, in all cases, the concept "disinfection of people" is wrong. The environment can be disinfected, but not the people whom carry on the virus.
3How does NOB166® work against the virus?
NOB166® is a protective biocide composed of a surfactant (surfactant) and silver ions embedded in a natural inorganic matrix. The surfactant binds to the lipid (fat) layer that surrounds the coronavirus and dissolves it. The coronavirus RNA (genetic material) is exposed and denatured due to the multi-target effect of silver ions that combines 3 factors:

• Prevents the transport of the electron chain which avoids the repair of the protective membrane.
• inhibits protein synthesis and, therefore,
• prevents the formation of new RNA.
NOB166® provides the necessary surfactant to hydrolyze this layer of lipids that enables the coronavirus to be deactivated. The size of the active substance in NOB166® is very similar to the coronavirus one, which is why contact is much easier. Once the lipid barrier has been crossed, the silver ions attack the RNA of the coronavirus, inactivating it. In addition, it remains on textile surfaces prolonging the effect for at least 7 days thanks to the fact that the encapsulated active principle of NOB166® is released in a slow and controlled way on the garments surface, forming a protective layer.

NOB166® has recently been certified as an APTE innovative company and recognized with the ANCES seal.
4Does NOB166® comply with the test regulations of the Spanish Ministry of Health?
Following compliance with Standard 14476, the Test Standard has set a minimum reduction in virus growth greater than four logarithmic units. The in vitro tests carried out by NOB166 show that NOB166® achieves a reduction of 5.13 logarithmic units (> 4) in the growth of the FCoV coronavirus.

In addition to the coronavirus, NOB166® prevents the deposit and growth of any pathogenic agent on any textile such as: Escherichiacoli, Legionella sp, Preudomonas, Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aurens, Aspergillus niger, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Campylobacter jejuni, Herirpes simplevirus or Avian Influenza.
5How NOB166® started?
In 2019 NOB166® is installed in ESPAITEC (Scientific and Technological Park of Jaume I University of Castellón, and starts performing tests in collaboration with the Department of Health Sciences of Jaume I University.

The initial idea was to use additives modified by nanotechnology for cold protection, in a trial we saw that the protection was prolonged in the fabric and the fabric continued to be protected. From this moment on, we worked until finally achieving that the microparticles of the product release silver ions in a controlled way for a week (7 days), thanks to the microencapsulated active principle of NOB166®.

NOB166® currently collaborates closely with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Science Park (ULPGC), where it continues to advance with new nanotechnology-based projects for textile antimicrobial protection.
6Does NOB166® prevent the coronavirus from replicating?
Unlike bacteria or fungi that are living organisms (they are born, reproduce and die), viruses are not alive. Viruses are organic molecules that replicate (multiply) in only those cells where conditions are adequate to its.

On textiles or on materials surfaces, they only remain latent for some periods of time, but cannot be replicated in them. What NOB166® biocide does is inactivate the virus, therefore it no longer has the characteristics that make it dangerous or harmful to humans.

The length of time that the coronavirus remains on textiles depends on many factors (can be several days). What NOB166® does is reduce this time to zero. It inactivates it immediately and therefore ceases to be dangerous to humans.

Therefore, NOB166® prevents the virus that causes COVID-19 from fixing and remaining active on textiles.
7Is NOB166® environmentally friendly?
The proven efficiency of NOB166® additive allows excellent antimicrobial protection during the washing process using very few particles per million. The low dosage required makes NOB166® a safe additive for human contact and for the environment.
8Why NOB166® only on fabrics?
Fabrics are vectors of transmission, and disinfecting them with a high-temperature washing process does not mean that garments are protected afterwards. NOB166® prevents the transport of the electron chain, which avoids the repair of the protective membrane, inhibits protein synthesis and, therefore, prevents the formation of new RNA.
9How is NOB166® used?
The application of the additive is simple; spray homogeneously 10 or 15 centimeters from the garment, and as soon as it dries it is ready and protected.

If it is done through a steam cleaner, it should be done whenever the nozzle of this is greater than 30 microns.
10On what kind of fabrics can NOB166® be used?
This additive can be used on any fabric.
11Does NEONOB work against the coronavirus?
The first thing is to differentiate NOB166®, which is a biocide with protective action from NEONOB, which is a brand of household textile cleaning products (softener, detergent ...)

NOB166® is the additive included in the formulation of a NEONOB detergent that can be found in stores and is intended for domestic consumption.

NOB166® H-ion has been tested and shown to be active against feline coronavirus.

NEONOB product range containing NOB166 H-ion is in the testing process. Everything indicates that, given that NEONOB range contains a sufficient amount of the tested asset, effectiveness should be maintained.
12What types of fabrics is NOB166® suitable for?
NOB166® is used for treating all types of fabrics, natural or synthetic, even those difficult to wash and those that are washed in cold water.
